The Opportunity

Due to continued success, they are seeking an experienced Scientific Director to join their team.

In this role, you will provide scientific and clinical expertise across assigned therapeutic areas while playing a key role in the development and execution of continuing medical education programs.

You will be responsible for needs assessments, gap analyses, instructional design, scientific content development, faculty identification and collaboration, educational strategy, and program execution. You will also contribute to new business initiatives by identifying emerging educational opportunities, developing proposal concepts, and translating current scientific evidence into compelling educational strategies.

The ideal candidate combines strong scientific knowledge with excellent medical writing, strategic thinking, and an understanding of adult learning and independent medical education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify professional practice gaps and educational needs affecting clinicians and other healthcare professionals.
  • Develop comprehensive needs assessments, gap analyses, learning objectives, and educational strategies.
  • Write, review, and edit scientifically accurate medical education content across multiple formats.
  • Monitor emerging evidence, late-breaking publications, therapeutic developments, and competitive educational activity.
  • Maintain current knowledge of assigned therapeutic areas through ongoing literature review and market surveillance.
  • Research, synthesize, and critically evaluate scientific and clinical information.
  • Provide scientific direction for educational content, graphics, presentations, videos, and digital learning assets.
  • Recommend instructional design approaches and determine the optimal format and positioning of written, video, and digital content.
  • Develop pre- and post-activity assessment questions aligned with learning objectives in collaboration with medical editors.
  • Perform scientific accuracy reviews and ensure consistency, quality, and appropriate positioning across all educational materials.
  • Identify and recommend expert faculty and key opinion leaders within assigned therapeutic areas.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with faculty throughout the planning and content development process.
  • Collaborate with faculty on content development, revisions, and updates.
  • Proactively identify new educational topics, faculty, formats, and program opportunities.
  • Contribute scientific strategy and content recommendations to proposals and business development initiatives.
  • Participate in proposal development from initial concept through final execution.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to develop outcomes presentations, capabilities materials, and educational strategies demonstrating practice gaps and opportunities for improvement.
  • Partner with project management to establish timelines and ensure medical and scientific deliverables are completed on schedule.
  • Review and manage assigned project tasks while adhering to internal procedures and quality standards.
  • Collaborate closely with project management, editorial, design, outcomes, and other internal teams to ensure successful program execution.
  • Provide strategic input regarding target audiences, learner engagement, educational reach, and opportunities to enhance program impact.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in medical writing, continuing medical education, medical education, or scientific communications.
  • Strong scientific and clinical research skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and synthesize complex medical literature.
  • Excellent medical writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to scientific accuracy.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, clients, and cross-functional internal teams.
  • Strong time management skills with a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.
  • Creative and strategic thinker who can identify new educational opportunities and approaches.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and instructional design is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, PubMed, and EndNote is preferred.

Education

Scientific or medical credentials are strongly preferred, including:

  • PharmD or RPh
  • PhD
  • MD or DO
  • NP or PA
  • Other advanced scientific or clinical degrees may also be considered
