As part of its continued growth, the organization is expanding into the medical communications space and is seeking an accomplished Managing Director to build and lead this new division.

The Opportunity
As Managing Director, you will have overall responsibility for the strategy, development, and growth of the Medical Communications division.
You will define the business model and service offering, recruit and lead a high-performing team, build relationships across the pharmaceutical and biotech industries, and work closely with senior leadership to integrate the new division into the broader organization.
What You’ll Do
Build the Business
- Develop and execute a comprehensive business plan for the new Medical Communications division
- Define the division’s vision, positioning, service offerings, and growth strategy
- Identify market opportunities and establish a differentiated value proposition
- Create the operational structure, processes, and resources needed to support sustainable growth
Lead and Develop the Team
- Recruit, build, mentor, and lead a high-performing medical communications team
- Establish a collaborative, entrepreneurial, and client-focused culture
- Develop organizational structure, roles, responsibilities, and talent plans as the business grows
- Provide leadership and strategic direction across client and internal teams
Drive Business Development
- Identify and develop relationships with pharmaceutical, biotech, and healthcare organizations
- Build and manage a strong pipeline of new business opportunities
- Lead senior-level client conversations, proposals, presentations, and pitches
- Develop strategic medical communications solutions tailored to client needs
- Build long-term relationships with key client stakeholders
- Represent the organization at relevant industry conferences, meetings, and networking events
Oversee Operations and Financial Performance
- Establish and manage division budgets, forecasts, and financial targets
- Drive revenue growth and profitability
- Ensure effective resource planning and operational efficiency
- Develop processes and quality standards that support consistent, high-quality client delivery
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and industry best practices
Collaborate Across the Organization
- Partner with senior leadership and internal teams to leverage the agency’s existing creative, strategic, production, and engagement capabilities
- Identify opportunities to integrate medical communications services with broader client offerings
- Ensure the division’s strategy supports overall organizational growth objectives
What We’re Looking For
- 10+ years of medical communications experience
- At least 5 years of senior leadership or management experience
- Deep understanding of the pharmaceutical, biotech, and broader healthcare industries
- Demonstrated success building and growing medical communications business
- Strong track record in business development, client acquisition, and revenue growth
- Established relationships within pharmaceutical and biotech organizations
- Experience developing and leading high-performing teams
- Strong commercial and financial acumen
- Ability to develop strategy and translate it into successful execution
- Exceptional client-facing, presentation, negotiation, and communication skills
- Entrepreneurial mindset and comfort working in a build-from-the-ground-up environment
